Carbon Literacy for Travel and Tourism

May 7 @ 09:30 - 16:45

Accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project, this training day offers a comprehensive guide to carbon and climate change. Tailored specifically for the travel industry you will gain an understanding of climate goals, their application to travel, and how businesses are affected.

This training day will enable you to integrate this knowledge into your personal and professional strategies, including communication.

Early bird rates will expire on 4 April.

As the UK works towards its 2050 net-zero target and sustainability and climate change are priorities for governments, consumers, and businesses this practical day has been designed to support your climate goals. Attend this practical training day to hear the impact of climate change on businesses and individuals and understand international and UK policy and goals.

Taking part in this training is an opportunity to get a thorough introduction to the science behind climate change and an update on the current carbon landscape, including a recap on the Paris Agreement, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and travel-specific initiatives such as the UNWTO Glasgow Declaration.

When considering the impact of the travel industry on carbon emissions it’s important to understand and differentiate between key carbon terminology, including offsetting, reduction, and Carbon Scopes Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol. Expert speakers will guide you through these key definitions and provide you with an understanding of climate goals and how they are applied to travel.

Working in small groups, you will participate in a practical session to get first-hand experience in calculating your own impact, and analyse travel examples across the supply chain.

Hear from a travel lawyer on the details of the Green Claims Code to ensure your communication, marketing, and product practices are compliant. Understand current consumer sentiment towards sustainable travel and discuss with peers how to communicate sustainability both internally and externally to enhance your brand.

Through industry examples, expert speakers and panel discussions, this training day will support those just starting their climate journey as well as those looking to broaden knowledge across their organisation.

Your form and carbon survey will be submitted to the Carbon Literacy Project on your behalf by ABTA, and you can expect your certificates to be issued a few weeks afterwards.
